Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site in DECEMBER 2000, for its outstanding biological attributes.

                                                                                             
   

The park is one of the most popular tourist spots in Sabah and Malaysia in general. In 2004, more than 415,360 visitors and 43,430 climbers visited the Park. The main attraction of the park is the MOUNT KINABALU one off the many highest mountain in South East Asia.

 

 
Mount Kinabalu attracts thousands of climbers from around the world every year and is also the venue of the annual Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon.

Madai-Baturong Forest Reserve Centre is another treasure of the Sabah's East Coast. MADAI is actually a bird cave and is an important spot for the colection of bird's nest.While the Baturong Cave is riddled with several caverns witch contain ancient coffins.

The Madai - Baturong Forest Reserve Nature Centre has been classified as a Class 1 forest reserve and it's an excellent place for a day of cave exploration trip.

TURTLE ISLAND PARK

The Turtle Islands Park lies 40 km north of Sandakan.The park comprises three small islands, Selingan, Gulisan and Bakungan Kechil. It covers an area of 1,740 hectares which includes the surrounding reefs and seas. Two species of turtles - Greens and Hawksbills are special features of this park. Throughout the year, they come ashore at night to lay their eggs. Hatcheries exist on all three islands.



Getting There : The boat from the Sabah Park jetty at Jalan Buli Buli Sim leaves at 9.30am and the ride to Selingan takes an hour.

KOTA KINABALU WETLANDS, desingnated as a bird sanctuary in 1995, is an important refuge and feeding ground for many species of resident birds as well as migratory species from Northern Asia. Almost 80 species of birn had been identified at the santuary and has many mangrove wildlife that live within Kota Kinabalu Wetlands.

Tabin Wildlife Reserve is home to variaus endangered wildlife such as the Borneo Pygmy elephant, the Sumatran rhino , Tembadau (Bos javanicusand exotic birdlife.

Danum Valley Conservation Area is about 83 km away from the nearest town, Lahad Datu. Damun Vally boasts one of the richest conservation areas in the world with over 200 species of thee per hectare thriving on it . It also recongnized as one of the world's most complx ecosytem and a nature home for endangered wildlife species.

 

The Danum Valley also has a beautiful waterfalls and rivers especially Sungai Purut 7-tiered pools,one of the most spectacular waterfalls and pools found in Damum Valley Conservation Area.

In Sabah , there had plenty of simple yet delicious dishes which are mainly pickled or preserved. This is mainly due to the Sabahan partiality to all things tangy. At the same time, it also dates back to the olden days when there were yet to be refrigerators to keep the food in.

Nonsom, or sometimes known as Bosou. It is made using raw fresh water fish mixed together with rice and pickled using salt and pangi (a type of local herb). After the mixing, the mixture is stored in a glass jar and marinated for two weeks. Like most preserved traditional food, the Nonsom / Bosou is salty and tangy in flavour.It goes well with white rice or even fried beehoon. For a nicer aroma, sauté the Nonsom / Bosou together with diced garlic, a dash of pepper and olive oil—marvelous! .
